IGNOU’s Bachelor’s Degree Preparatory Programme
Bachelor’s Degree Preparatory Programme (BPP) – A Non-Formal Channel for seeking admission to BA/BCOM/BTS/BSW
IGNOU is offering a unique Bachelor’s Preparatory Programme once
again starting July 2007 session to those students who aspire to do
Bachelor’s Degree but are not 10+2 pass. Informing this, Shri.
S.Saunand, Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre, Port Blair stated
that in the absence of such a qualifying certificate (10+2), the
students are deprived of access to higher education and to enable such
students to enter higher education stream, IGNOU has designed this
unique preparatory programme. Bachelor’s Preparatory Programme
consists of three courses which can be completed in a minimum period of
six months. A student who has been admitted to the Bachelors
Preparatory Programme has to select any two of these courses out of the
three courses viz. Preparatory Course in General Mathematics (OMT-01),
Preparatory Course in Social Sciences (PSS-01) and Preparatory Course
in Commerce (PCO-01)
The minimum duration prescribed for completion of Bachelor’s
Preparatory Programme is six months and the maximum duration is for two
years. Therefore, a student can clear BPP within a minimum period of
six months and a maximum period of two years in order to become
eligible for admission to Bachelor’s Degree Programme (BDP).
Students who will be admitted for July 2007 session can appear in Term
End Examination, December-2007. In Bachelor’s Preparatory
Programme, multiple-choice questions are asked in the term end
examination and the maximum marks in each course shall be 50 and for
each course the pass percentage is 35%, which means 18 out of 50 in
each course is required to successfully complete the course. If a
student clears only one course and fails to complete the other in any
Term- end Examination, he/she is required to appear the next Term End
Examination for only that course, which has not been cleared. Only
after clearing both the opted courses, the student is eligible for
seeking admission to BA/BCOM/BTS/BSW other programmes of IGNOU.
